Canada Wireless Telecommunications Association

The Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) is the authority on wireless issues, developments and trends in Canada. It represents cellular, PCS, messaging, mobile radio, fixed wireless and mobile satellite carriers, as well as companies that develop and produce products and services for the industry.

WiTec Alberta

A non-profit organization formed in 1994, WiTec is a provincial industry assocation that provides linkage, leverage, focus and support for the sector. Its mission is to "grow and increase the competitiveness of the wireless and telecommunications industry in Alberta."

Specific goals of the organization focus on:

  • Showcasing resident technologies in the province
  • Increasing collaboration among all stakeholders
  • Providing networking and mentorship opportunities for members
  • Assisting in support for investment attraction
  • Assisting in creating and providing market access
  • Collaborating to strengthen the overall technology sector in the province

The United States Internet Service Provider Association

This group represents the common policy and legal interests of Internet Service Providers in the U.S. It reviews current issues, articles and provides information link for further research.

The Internet Society

The Internet Society (ISOC) is a professional membership society with more than 100 organizations  and over 20,000 individual members in over 180 countries. It provides leadership in addressing issues that confront the future of the Internet, and is the organization home for the groups responsible for Internet infrastructure standards, including the Internet Engineering Task Force (EITF) and the Internet Architecture Board (IAB).

SuperNet Technical Training Courses

The Northern Alberta Institue of Technology (NAIT) has developed, and is now delivering, SuperNet Technical Training courses to IP personnel who have responsibilities to design, manage, install and service network connections to the Alberta SuperNet. NAIT's SuperNet technical training courses for networking personnel are open to:

  • All Alberta ministries
  • Organizations under ministries' jurisdictions
  • Private organizations or companies that may be using for providing services over the Alberta SuperNet

Cisco Networking Academy Program

Cisco also offers a Cisco Networking Academy Program. Their basic level certification, Cisco Certified Network Associate, provides a basic foundation in networking. This program prepares learners to design, build and maintain small - to medium - sized networks. Many institutions provide CCNA preparation course, including the Southern Alberta Institue of Technology (SAIT) in Calgary.
